Leaky Cistern Siphon.Inside your toilet cistern is a piece of equipment that provides a very good service and you probably are totally unaware of its existence. The kit itself is called a siphon arrangement. It makes your toilet flush by raising and lowering a big rubber seal over a hole sat in the base of the toilet cistern. It works by using the heavy water pressure of the full tank to keep the seal. The rubber seal can wear or it can even bubble, either one of these things could be the reason for a failure causing a leak, or, it could be down to debris in the cistern. Surbiton Plumbers can repair the siphon. This debris can consist of the remains of a freshener block that is placed in the cistern. If you think the siphon is leaking:1). Firstly isolate the water supply and flush the water away. Now remove the cistern lid, then, remove the top of the siphon by turning and lifting it away. Sometimes it is clipped, if so press them in and remove the siphon. Their design varies. 2). Visually check the rubber seal on the base, look for bubbling. If it looks poor or is damaged then replace it with a new one from your local merchant. Take the whole unit for identification. The new on will probably need to be ordered so keep the old one for now. If the rubber looks fine, then look for debris. Clean out the cistern as a matter of course. A Surbiton Plumber would carry out this action.3). Place the top of the siphon back on the base, either twisting or clipping as needed.4).
