Speed Fitting (Guide to disconnecting)
To disconnect this fitting you will need to unlock it by turning the screw cap anticlockwise until you can see a small gap and feel some resistance. Sometimes there are clips fitted, if , so you will need to remove these as well. Press down on the collet on the end of the fitting. Do this with your fingers alone, but you can also get ‘collet release’ tool if you can’t do it by hand. Pull, and the pipe should break away from the fitting. Now when this usually happens a plastic seal insert is left behind sat in the fitting, so, to get it out you will need to take the fitting apart completely. Surbiton Plumbers carry out all plumbing work.Taking the Fitting apart:To do this, unscrew the screw cap by turning anticlockwise, even though you will feel resistance just carry on turning, you may have to hold the middle of the fitting steady with a pair of the right sized pliers. Once the cap is released you will be able to remove the pipe insert and also there will be a black ’O’ ring and a blue plastic ring. Make sure these go back in the same place correctly. The black ’O’ ring is the first and then the blue ring on the top of it. A Surbiton Plumber knows how to deal with speed fittings. Place the screw cap back and tighten clockwise once again you may feel some resistance so give it another turn to overcome this and the screw cap is on again. The best thing about this type of fitting is they work really well with copper pipes, the only difference being you don’t get any indicators to tell you that the fitting is in properly and no pipe inserts to support the copper tube are needed.<< Older post Newer post >>
