Pipe Cutting And Joining
The best way to cut any copper pipework prior to jointing two pipes is to use a purpose made pipe cutter. They are small but very accurate and will make a perfect clean cut every time. You simply place the pipe in the jaws of the cutter at the point you where you need to cut, and tighten by hand and then begin to turn the cutter. Surbiton Plumbers can supply, cut and join pipework. The aim is to turn the blade to form the first groove and then keep turning slowly, tightening your grip on each turn, as this will cut deeper and deeper every time, and as long as you don’t grip too tight the cut will be good and the pipe will not bend. Once the pipe is cut, take of any burring, with either a round file or a deburring tool. The pipe will become noisy as the water flows through if the ends are not clean. If the pipes are plastic you can them using special shears or a very sharp craft knife. One of the easiest ways to join two pipes of metal or copper is to use a compression joint, as it is strong and easy to do. A Surbiton Plumber is qualified for all plumbing jobs. Firstly, undo and take off the cap-nuts from the compression fitting. Now fit the new olive onto the first pipe, and slide it into the fitting until it stops. Now slide the cap nut up and onto the fitting and begin to tighten by hand. The second pipe can then be done exactly the same way as the first. Hand tight is usually all that this type of fitting needs to be watertight, however, should there be any leaking from the joint, then you can give both nuts a quarter turn with the cirrect sized spanner.<< Older post Newer post >>
